Outlaws Head Coach Resigns
It is with the utmost regret that I have to inform you all that our Head Coach, Justin Smith resigned from his post earlier this week, for personal reasons.
This, as I’m sure you will appreciate, must have been an incredibly difficult decision for him to make and he would like you all to know that this decision by no means whatsoever has any bearing on the performance of the team this season, nor the expectations of the team next season.
For those of you who don’t know, Coach Smith was instrumental in the creation of the Nottingham Outlaws (originally a combined team with Nottingham Trent University) who formed in 1995, playing their first competitive season in 1996/97.
Coach Smith was our first ever Head Coach and prior to his most recent term, has returned as Head Coach twice more (2001/02; 2005/06).
Following the split from NTU in 2009 it was fitting that Coach Smith made a return to the now called University of Nottingham Outlaws and was reappointed to the role of Offensive Coordinator for the 2010/11 season. A year later Coach Smith re-assumed the role of Head Coach, following the departure of Coach (Chris) Davies.
During his most recent term with the club, Coach Smith took the team on its first ever residential training camp weekend, held in Greenwich, London (2011). The successes of which lead to this year’s camp at Denstone College, Uttoxeter. An annual tradition which we hope will continue.
Coach Smith has brought a new standard of training and education in football to players and coaches alike, leaving the club in excellent shape going forward.
Put bluntly without the work of Coach Smith (and others) we would not have an American Football team at the University of Nottingham. Whether you were a rookie this year, have just finished your 6th season, have graduated, or now help coach the team, it must be said that our time at University without Outlaws Football would not be / have been nearly as enjoyable.
Thank You Coach,
we all wish you the very best for the future and hope you’ll find your way back to Outlaws in the not too distant future,
in the mean time I hope whoever fills the role of Head Coach will bring as much passion, commitment and determination as you have…time and time again.
Andrew Mathers

Lincoln Match Cancelled
As some of you may be aware, Lincoln have been without a head coach since the end of last year and have been unsuccessful so far in finding a replacement. As a consequence, our fixture against the Colonials scheduled for this Sunday (27th) has been cancelled. The game will be awarded to the Outlaws as a 1-0 win.
